PGCE FT: Dance specialism
Work placement: Newcastle College
''I studied the Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre at Newcastle College followed by a one year BA (Hons) Top-Up degree. Throughout my third year I had the opportunity to undertake a teaching work placement at a dance school. This inspired me to strive for a career in this area and made me aware of how much I enjoyed teaching others my own experience and skills that I had developed throughout my training at Newcastle College.
I decided to enrol onto the full time PGCE course at the NSE and immediately went about trying to find a suitable teaching placement. I applied and was successful in getting a work placement in Newcastle College’s Performance Academy, working with Level 3 Dance students.
The PGCE course has helped me plan and prepare for classes and it has increased my confidence in terms of lesson delivery and session planning. I am currently delivering a Jazz Technique module with year one and I am also carrying out student assessments alongside the guidance of my mentor.
This has increased my skill set and given me great experience of full time teaching. The PGCE course and my work placement has enhanced and continues to develop my skills to enable me to strive for a successful career in teaching''.
