Why did you choose to stay at Newcastle College?
After I completed the BTEC in Musical Theatre, I considered moving to London but at the time I wasn’t ready. I knew that past students had done the Foundation Degree and it had set them up really well. So I decided to stay and work hard to ensure I would be ready after the Foundation Degree to make the jump to London.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
I would have to say performing is what I have enjoyed the most. I just love being on stage. I am enjoying every moment of pursuing my dream. The course has helped me discover who I am as a performer and as a person.
Have you had the opportunity to go on a work placement as part of your degree?
Throughout the course you do a number of shows, where you learn so much for instance how to cope with casting and auditions, how to better your performance and dancing, how to do make-up. The environment that is created is as close to what it is like in the industry as it can be. That’s why I think so many people who have studied here have gone on to do really well.
Have you worked on any projects/live briefs as part of your course?
I have been in The Adams Family where I starred as Wednesday, I really enjoyed the role. And recently I was in Cabaret as Fritzy. There is a lot of competition on the course which is great as this makes everyone better. I have come so far from when I started at the College. My confidence has grown, I am more mature now and I am a better performer.
Has there been any guest lectures from industry?
Yes because of the relationship the tutors have with performers in the industry we have had guest lectures from Callum Train who starred in Cats, Mark Hedges chorographer and Kris Manuel who starred in Billy Elliott. Just to name a few. It is great that we get to meet and hear from those working in the industry. We can learn so much from their experiences and advice.
What are your plans after your course?
My plan is to move to London. I am so pleased I have been successful in getting a place at Urdang Academy to do a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre.
