''After studying a Marketing Management degree at Northumbria University I began a career in PR and communications which I enjoyed for over eight years. Alongside my PR and Communications role I decided to open up my own shop selling a wide range of jewellery making supplies. We also delivered workshops and this prompted me to look into the possibility of studying a teaching qualification to help with the structure of my own business in terms of my teaching delivery.

I applied and was successful in getting a place on the PGCE in young people and adults at the interview stage, great emphasis was placed on the need to gain a teaching work placement whilst studying the PGCE qualification. I gained a voluntary work placement opportunity at Newcastle College in the Health and Enterprise department.

I am currently working with both Level 2 and 3 learners and recently secured a paid Part Time Occasional Lecturer role within the depart. I believe I was successful at the interview for this role due to my performance and progress whilst on placement. I am working seven hours a week voluntary and five hours paid work.

I am thoroughly enjoying my work placement and I have been able to successful incorporate the theory I have learnt on the course into the teaching I am carrying out. My tutors in the Newcastle School of Education always give us a huge varied approach to teaching techniques and ideas alongside lots of practical examples.

In class we continuously share information and ideas which has enabled me to test various teaching styles and approaches to see what works best for individual students depending on their capabilities. The content of the PGCE course has helped me lay down a practical foundation in my lesson plans to allow me to get the very best from my pupils''.
