Travel and Tourism - Level 3

• 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths.

This is a two-year programme and you will receive a qualification after the successful completion of each year.

In Year One, you will achieve an NCFE Level 3 Introductory Diploma in Travel and Tourism.

In Year Two, you will top up to achieve an NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism.

In Year One you will study units such as:

• Customer service in travel and tourism
• Preparing for a career in travel and tourism
• Travel and tourism destinations
• UK visitor attractions
• Travel agency operations
• UK airports
• Specialist tourism
• Business travel.

In Year Two you will study units such as:

• Hospitality in travel and tourism
• Work experience in travel and tourism
• UK tour operations
• The UK conference and event industry
• Marketing for travel and tourism
• The UK passenger transport industry
• Worldwide passenger airlines
• The cruise industry
• Responsible tourism.

Travel and Tourism students benefit from a 35-hour work placement with a relevant local employer, including hotels, travel agents, museums and visitor attractions. Students are encouraged to find their own placement with the support of a work experience coach.

You will also have a number of opportunities to develop your skills and experience outside of the classroom attending masterclasses and enjoying field trips.

English and maths skills are vital for working in the travel and tourism industry, whether that be pricing a holiday or analysing customer trends. We embed these skills into your course to ensure you have opportunities to enhance these skills and keep them fresh.

On successful completion of this two-year programme, you will be able to progress to a related degree and you will be guaranteed a place on a FdA Tourism and Events Management programme at Newcastle College University Centre.

There will be an additional cost where you are required to pay a contribution towards trips and visits.
