Hairdressing - Level 1

• 3 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and maths

If you achieve:

• GCSE grade 3 in English or maths

AND

• GCSE grade 1 in English or maths

AND

• Two other GCSEs at grade 2 or above

You can still study this course, but you will need to complete Entry Level 3 and Level 1 Functional Skills alongside it.

On successful completion of this course you will receive a City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Hairdressing. 

• Introduction to the hair and beauty sector

• Follow health and safety in the salon

• Working with others in the hair and beauty sector

• Shampoo and conditioning

• Styling women’s hair

• Create a hair and beauty image

• Colour hair using temporary colour

Students studying hairdressing benefit from work experience opportunities in The Retreat, working as a junior for our Level 2 students. 

Hairdressing relies on maths and English and both subjects will be embedded into your programme through use of measurements and mixing dyes. 

If you have not yet achieved GCSEs in English and maths at grade 4 or above, you will be supported to achieve these.

You can progress onto a Level 2 in Hairdressing, Creative Make-up or Beauty Therapy when you successfully complete this course.

If you are aged 16-18 when you begin your course you are likely to be eligible for free tuition. Detailed information can be found within the financial support section. 

Learners not eligible for student bursary will be required to purchase a college training kit and uniform approx. £215 and pay approx. £410 for any enrichment activities that are planned throughout the course, which includes styling/colouring workshops, attending a pantomime and escape rooms, all yet to be confirmed.
