Caring for Children - Level 1

• 3 GCSEs at grade 2 or above including English and maths

If you achieve:

• GCSE grade 3 in English or maths

AND

• GCSE grade 1 in English or maths

AND

• Two other GCSEs at grade 2 or above

You can still study this course, but you will need to complete Entry Level 3 and Level 1 Functional Skills alongside it.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will achieve the NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Caring for Children.

• Understanding learning and development through play
• Human growth and development
• Practical Health and Safety when with young children
• Craft activities for young children
• Healthy living
• Listening to and talking with a young child.

• Practical sessions
• Classroom sessions
• One-to-one tutorials
• Role play.

• Practical assessments
• Written assignments.

Whilst you will not complete a placement on this course, you will gain the skills required to progress onto higher level childcare courses. These future courses will include a work placement element in a nursery and/or primary school.

English and maths skills are vital to become an Early Years Educator. We will embed these skills into the course.

This course requires you to upskill your English and maths levels. You will be required to attend compulsory maths and English lessons each week. This is a compulsory element of this course.

Upon successful completion of this course, you could progress onto Level 2 Certificate in Caring for Young Children at Newcastle College.
