Early Years Practitioner - Level 2 (Part-Time)

• GCSE English Language grade D/3 or above

or

• Level 1 Functional Skills English

or

• Level 1 ESOL Skills for Life (reading, writing and speaking/listening components)

and

• You should hold a Level 1 maths qualification, or be working towards this (for progression to Level 3 and for employability in the sector)

We recommend that you study either Level 2 Functional Skills English or GCSE English Language alongside this programme for employability/progression reasons.

This course includes a mandatory placement element in a suitable Early Years setting. You will be expected to apply for a DBS when beginning the college course. You will be guided through this process by your tutor.

If you complete this course successfully, you will receive a CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Early Years Practitioner.

You will work a minimum of one day a week in a childcare setting which you will find yourself. The placement should be in a childcare setting with children aged 0-5 years of age for at least 15 hours per week.

You will also work in our state-of-the art simulated nurseries, where you will build a portfolio of work that demonstrates your practical skills and competency working with children.

You will develop your English skills through assessments, as well as designing and reflecting on activity plans for use in your childcare setting. You will expand your communication skills through observations and working with children. Maths is enhanced through the use of ratios within settings, appropriate measurements for bottle feeds and juice as drinks for children, as well as being able to perform calculations when using resources and budgeting.

If you complete this course successfully, you could progress into employment as a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner in a supervised role or onto further study on our Level 3 Early Years Workforce qualification.
