Photography - Level 3

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English or maths and an art-based subject.

This is a two-year programme. You will achieve a qualification after successful completion of each year.

In year one you will receive a Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit Diploma Art and Design (Photography).

In year two you will receive a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma Art and Design (Photography).

Regular feedback is provided throughout your photography project to help you understand areas for further development and improvement.

You will take part in a number of work experience opportunities and competitions both internally and with external businesses, providing photography support.

You will benefit from guest lectures and workshops from professional practitioners.

You will also collaborate with other programmes of study, including Graphic Design - Level 3 students, gaining experience of working to real-world publishing standards and editorial expectations.

On successful completion you can progress to BA (Hons) Photography with Newcastle College University Centre.

You may also wish to find employment as a photographer's assistant or pursue freelance photography work. 

Photographers need a good understanding of maths when working with image resolutions, light calculations, f/stops and photo editing. English skills are essential when analysing images, writing about the work of others and drafting sketchbook narratives. 

Throughout this photography course you will develop your English and maths skills so you become confident in these areas.
