What do you enjoy most about your course?
I have made good friends, have brilliant support from the staff and made good connections to those in the industry. The course is a challenge but it motivates you to do well as you can see the end result.
What are the facilities like at the College?
The facilities are great at the Aviation Academy. You have access to a large hangar which houses a Jetstream aircraft, as well as an outdoor Boeing 737. Having these facilities readily available is fantastic as you’re able to put what you have learnt in the classroom into practice.
Have you had the opportunity to go on a work placement as part of your degree?
I went down to Humberside Airport to work at Eastern Airways and really enjoyed it. The staff were helpful and supportive. While I was there I worked on a Jetstream, which was great because I knew what I was doing as we work on them at the College.
How would you describe the staff at the College?
The College staff have been great. They are very passionate about what they do and this shows in their teaching. The staff have industry experience, so they can give you tips and advice that isn’t in a textbook. The staff respect you and the students respect the staff. This creates a better learning environment and you don’t mind asking for any help.
What has been your highlight of studying at Newcastle College?
The highlight of studying the degree at Newcastle College has been getting to know the trade and meeting so many great people.
How do you think your degree has prepared you for employment?
The course is very specific, and you are given the confidence that what you have learnt is industry standard. There are so many people who studied here and now work in the field, because of this and the teaching, I feel like this course has prepared me for employment..
