Last month we celebrated the graduation of almost 800 college students across six Graduation Ceremonies at Newcastle Civic Centre.
In what was a joyous and momentous occasion, the ceremonies saw 3,000 friends and family celebrate the success of our Class of 2017. During the events, we were reminded by our guest speakers that learning does not stop inside of the classroom and the work that tutors and support teams have played is the start of a very exciting journey.
Many students took to social media to share pictures and video's of their day, commenting, "Couldn't have graduated without my amazing lecturer Leo Africano! Thanks for everything!" The family and friends of our graduates also used social media to share congratulations, with one guest posting "My husband's graduation. So proud of everything you have achieved FIRST CLASS HONOURS is incredible! Stand tall & enjoy your day!"
The ceremonies included inspirational talks from guest speakers like Councillor Nick Forbes of Newcastle City Council; Brendan Foster CBE of The Great Run Company; Andrew Hodgson of North East LEP; Jacqueline De Rojas of techUK; Sir Nick Kenyon of Barbican Centre and Jim Beirne MBE of Live Theatre.
Among motivational words of wisdom, guest speakers offered messages of good luck to our students with Jacqueline De Rojas tweeting "So inspiring to share this graduation with a whole new generation of talent #Ambition". Andrew Hodgson of North East LEP echoed the sentiment, "Thank you for the opportunity, always inspiring to be with so many bright and committed young people, our future is sorted!"
