Students from Newcastle College will be adding the finishing touches to the first Newcastle International Film Festival (NIFF) this weekend.
An international celebration of film, it will feature world premieres and exclusive screenings, as well as director Q&As and industry panels, attracting names from Hollywood to Bollywood and beyond.
Held over four days, at various venues across Newcastle and Gateshead, the festival will showcase North East talent alongside global works, with the aim of helping more people from the region enter the industry.
Due to close on Sunday 1 April with a prestigious awards event and closing ceremony, the final footage featured will be edited by Newcastle College students.
The College’s support will not only give its students practical experience, but opportunities to meet directors and producers, while gaining access to a number of workshops, masterclasses and exclusive screenings.
The closing footage provided by the students will be seen by many key figures in the world of film; another great example of the College’s emphasis on providing learners with hands on opportunities within industry.
Deni Chambers, Director of Creative and Digital Industries at Newcastle College said: “It’s great to be asked to be involved in the festival and help promote the region as a hub of acting and media talent.
“Our involvement gives our students a fantastic opportunity to gain some useful experience and make industry connections, while benefitting from the screenings and workshops on offer across the festival.
“The region is a great filming location and the festival is a great chance to showcase it for future ventures. Our support will hopefully help place Newcastle College at the front of any future developments within film and tv production in the region.”
