Newcastle College has been nominated for an award in the second annual LGBTQ North East Awards.

The awards, which were created by Sunderland based LGBTQ charitable project Rainbow Foundation, recognise the positive contributions made by individuals, organisations and groups across the region to improve the lives of members of the LGBTQ community.

The College has been nominated for ‘Creating Safer Learning Spaces for LGBTQ People’ in recognition of the work we do to encourage equality, diversity and acceptance across campus, to ensure that all of our students feel safe here.

Principal Tony Lewin commented: “To receive even one nomination for this award means that the College has succeeded in making an LGBTQ student feel safe and secure on our campus.

“It is extremely important to us that we are able to provide a safe learning environment for all of our students and we actively promote a culture of acceptance and celebration of diversity amongst the student body.”

Shortlisting and judging of the category will be decided by an independent judging panel later this month.
