You might have heard the term Foundation Degree and wondered what it actually means. This guide is here to give you the ins and outs on what a Foundation Degree is, the grades you need and how you can get started with your studies.

What is a Foundation Degree?

Put simply, a Foundation Degree is a two-year career focused qualification that is broadly equivalent to the first two years of an Honours Degree.

With a Foundation Degree, you’ll gain professional knowledge and the employment skills you’ll need to work in your chosen sector. Once you’ve completed your two years of studies you’ll be able to find a job or, if you’d like to take your studies further, you’ll be able to complete a one-year Honours Degree (Top-Up) at Newcastle College University Centre.

What sort of grades will I need?

This is the great part – to study a Foundation Degree you’ll only need 48-64 points, meaning you can still continue your studies in your chosen area no matter your grades. This is also a great way of getting on to your course if you haven’t got the grades you were expecting – it’s a brilliant way to get back on track should you need it.
