Newcastle College students have once again been spreading festive cheer across the city, marking the third year of volunteering at Newcastle City Council’s Evry Christmas gift-wrapping event.
The annual initiative supports care-experienced young people and their families, ensuring every gift is thoughtfully wrapped and ready for Christmas. Alongside giving up their time, students and staff from Newcastle College donated wrapping paper, gift bags, festive selection boxes and sweet treats, with contributions collected from Monday 1 December.
This year, students from Level 3 Animation and Illustration and Level 3 Digital Arts courses took part in the wrapping sessions.
Ronnie Burn, Head of Careers Education at Newcastle College, said the College was proud to continue its involvement in the campaign:
“It’s an absolute privilege to be involved in this amazing initiative. This is our third year supporting the Evry Christmas campaign in the run-up to their annual celebration for care-experienced young people, and we’re incredibly proud of the commitment shown by our students and staff.”
The impact of the students’ efforts was welcomed by Newcastle City Council’s Evry team, who praised both the care taken in wrapping the gifts and the generosity shown through donations.
Lucy Brown, Evry Programme Manager at Newcastle City Council, said: “A huge thank you to the students and staff from Newcastle College for volunteering their time at our Evry Christmas gift-wrapping sessions.
"Their effort and care helped to ensure that every present for Newcastle care leavers and their children was thoughtfully wrapped.
"Alongside generous donations of chocolates, Christmas essentials and beautiful student-designed photography cards, their kindness made this festive season extra special for more children and young people in Newcastle.”
Newcastle College continues to encourage students to get involved in community initiatives, particularly during the festive period, and looks forward to building on its partnership with the Evry campaign, with further collaborative projects planned into 2026.
