Newcastle College is proud to be shortlisted for three awards at this year’s Educate North awards.
The prestigious annual event celebrates, recognises and shares best practice and excellence in the education sector in the North.
The shortlisted entries include work focused on mental health and wellbeing support for students, as well as an international project with the Bambisanani Partnership, which sees staff and students from Newcastle College fly to South Africa each year to work with more than 1,000 children in schools and orphanages.
Energy student turned staff member Dan Smith has also been shortlisted for University / PHD Student Achievement of the Year.
Principal of Newcastle College, Jon Ridley said: “I am over the moon that we have been shortlisted in three categories at this year’s Educate North Awards. Many congratulations to our colleagues who have been shortlisted and of course to Dan Smith who is up for University Student Achievement of the Year.

I am proud to lead a college that has regional and international reach, making a difference to the lives of people in Newcastle city region and the lives of young people in South Africa.

- Mental Health and Wellbeing Award
- University/PHD Student Achievement of the Year (Dan Smith, Energy)
NCG, the national college group that Newcastle College is part of, has also been shortlisted for its "NCG: Transforming Student Recruitment to Open Opportunities for All" campaign, reflecting the collective efforts of teams across NCG’s northern colleges to offer more students a further education pathway to their future career.
The awards ceremony is due to take place in Manchester on Thursday 3 April.
