Newcastle College University Centre celebrated the Class of 2023 earlier this month, with hundreds of happy students walking the stage to graduate at Newcastle Civic Centre.

Six ceremonies took place over a period of two days, with a range of degrees from Foundation to Masters level awarded in areas from Aviation and Engineering to Beauty, Teaching and Music.

Graduates gathered with friends, family, senior leaders from across NCG and guest speakers from industry, who were invited to provide support and inspiration to those about to embark on the next stage of their career.

Guests heard moving stories of success, such as that of Digital Arts’ Student of the Year Ellie Luther, a photography graduate who was nominated for her display of determination and resilience throughout her time as a student, despite challenges posed by her health.

Student speaker Robert Head was not only named Student of the Year for Aviation but has joined twelve other graduates in securing a role as a junior mechanic at British Airways. During his speech, Robert said that “studying at Newcastle College University Centre has given us the opportunity to develop and enhance a set of skills ready for the workplace.”

Music Production graduate Lee Humphries also reflected on his time at the University Centre, and said: “Studying the Music Production degree at Newcastle College University Centre has helped me achieve great things in my career, including Number 1 tracks and European headline slots. The knowledge I gained and the insights from tutors and peers will help me to progress into the future. I’d definitely recommend the Music Production degree to future students, and I've already recommended studying at the University Centre to others."

Hosting the graduation ceremonies was Jon Ridley, Deputy Principal of Newcastle College and executive lead for higher education across NCG. He added: “Graduation is one of the highlights of the year and a landmark moment for those receiving their degrees.

“Graduation is a time for reflection and celebration that recognises the hard work and commitment of graduates throughout their studies, and recognises the family, friends and loved ones who have supported them during their time as a student.

“Newcastle College University Centre graduates enter the world work-ready, with the skills and drive to succeed in their future. Most of our graduate choose to keep their talent in the region which is great news for a thriving economy and great place to live”.

The graduations mark the end of a celebratory year for Newcastle College University Centre, as it has just celebrated its 10,000th student graduating, as well as becoming the only further education college to receive permanent Taught Degree Awarding Powers.
