A record number of Newcastle College students have signed up to a pioneering training programme, delivered in partnership with Newcastle International Airport.
62 Aviation Operations students are now part of the Ambassador Programme, learning new skills and gaining valuable hands-on experience. The Programme offers them the chance to spend time at the Airport and with its business partners, learning about the different departments including security, passenger services, operations, air traffic control and business development.
This is almost double the number of ambassadors who spent time at the Airport last year, where 52% went on to gain employment at the Airport or with its partners.
Student Phoebe Kenny, 17, said: “It has been a great experience and I am really enjoying helping the passengers who need assistance.
“The Ambassador Programme is great for getting your foot in the door and I’m learning so much working with teams across all the different departments at the Airport.”
Lilly Hudspith, 18, added: “It is really rewarding helping the passengers and everyone at the Airport and the College have been so supportive.
“I am learning new skills and growing in confidence all the time and I am sure this is going to benefit me in whatever career path I choose.”
