If you have a passion for sport and exercise, our courses can help you turn your hobby into a career within sports or health and fitness. Our tutors are experts in their field and will help you develop your own performance and coaching abilities, so you can benefit from industry experience and employer partnerships.

There are a wide variety of careers available within this sector, including personal training, nutritionist, gym instructing, sports therapist, sports coach or sports scientist.

What you can study

We offer a number of courses that can help get you on your way to a career in sport. The routes will depend on your predicted or current GCSE grades. Please use our guide below to help understand which level you need to apply for.

Typically, if you have or are predicted less than 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or below:

If you have no GCSEs, you can undertake an Access to Further Education course, which will help you to develop your core subjects as well as English and maths.

Employer links

We have developed strong links with both regional and national partners and these offer exciting opportunities for our students. Our sports coaching learners work with organisations such as Newcastle United Foundation, Newcastle Falcons and have strong links with Sunderland AFC Foundation of Light and Newcastle Eagles.

We also work with a range of employers who provide placement opportunities to sports students. These opportunities are offered by local primary and secondary schools and local authorities as well as organisations such as VO2 Max Racing Events, Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic, Pocketfit Training, Boxercise, Bodyzone and Healthworks.

Course enrichment

  • Students can take part in a two week Sportilia trip to Italy which involves watching Serie A and B football matches, trips to the Italian FA and playing competitive football matches.
  • Students enjoy regular trips to local gyms, football, rugby and basketball stadiums to enhance learning.
