By choosing a sports course at Newcastle College, you can benefit from our strong links with local high profile sports teams and programmes, including Newcastle United Foundation, Newcastle Eagles, Newcastle Falcons and Sunderland AFC Foundation of Light.

There are a wide variety of careers available within this sector, including personal training, nutritionist, gym instructing, sports therapist, sports coach or sports scientist.

What you can study

We offer a number of courses that can help get you on your way to a career in sport. The routes will depend on your predicted or current GCSE grades. Please use our guide below to help understand which level you need to apply for.

Typically, if you have or are predicted less than 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or below:

If you have no GCSEs, you can undertake an Access to Further Education course, which will help you to develop your core subjects as well as English and maths.

Newcastle United Foundation Football Academy

This programme offers players aged 16-18 and studying a full-time Level 2 or 3 Sports course at Newcastle College, the opportunity to combine their studies with practical football training and playing experiences through the Newcastle United Foundation.

We have developed strong links with both regional and national partners to offer exciting opportunities for our students. Our sports coaching students work with high-profile organisations such as Newcastle United Foundation and Newcastle Falcons, while all of our sports students have the opportunity to train in the brand new Newcastle Eagles Community Arena.

Course enrichment

  • Students can take part in a two week Sportilia trip to Italy which involves watching Serie A and B football matches, trips to the Italian FA and playing competitive football matches.
  • Students enjoy regular trips to local gyms, football, rugby and basketball stadiums to enhance learning.
