Teacher Education

Newcastle College University Centre has an excellent reputation for teacher training. We offer both full-time and part-time courses that fully meet the requirements for Initial Teacher Training for the education of people aged 14 years and over. Our Diploma of Higher Education and PgCE programmes are mapped to national standards too.

You will be taught by experienced teacher-trainers who have many years' experience working in the education sector as teachers and education professionals.

A range of teaching specialisms are available including Special Educational Needs, Maths, English and you can study your course either part-time or full-time with us. Take a look at our degrees below.

Bursaries Available

When you train to teach Further Education at Newcastle College, you may be eligible to receive an FE ITE bursary to help you in your studies. Bursaries available for the 2026 - 2027 academic year are:

  • £31,000 for people learning to be a Maths, Science, Engineering or Computing teacher

  • £15,000 for people learning to be a SEND teacher

  • £10,000 for people learning to be an English teacher
